2010 Ferrari 458 Italia Review
Friday, 4 March 2011
Now the Maranello has presented one of its best designs in many years. This model Ferrari has a158 Italia, all aluminum mid-engine, the most advance go-fast hardware offerings, a clean-sheet creation, and the vehicle is definitely handsome to behold; its photograph makes for an exceptional centerfold.Just behind the driver's ears rests a design masterpiece: high compression, direct injection, and a twin cam V-8 that offers up an astonishing 557 hp from 4.5 naturally-aspirated liters too. To hear the engine revving at 9000 revolution per minute a single time will cause you to sell off all your assets to listen to the engine revving whenever you desire. The Maranello hosts a V-8 coupled with a 7-speed automatic transmission hosting paddle shifters, but no manual offerings are available. Magnetorheological shocks unify superior on the road handling and the finest riding compliancy, and a rapid steering ratio supplies superb response. Meanwhile, the 3300 pound weight of the vehicle makes the Marnanello 458 a lean road machine. Think of this before you make your buying decision; are you ready for a vehicle that's this extreme?
The Range
- Bodystyle: Coupe
- Engine: 4.5L V-8
- Transmission: 7-speed dual-clutch automatic
- Model: 458 Italia
What's New
Ferrari introduced the Italia as a new model for 2010, so everything about the car is fresh and exciting. From the sensational specific output of its V-8 to its new dual-clutch 7-speed, triple rear exhausts, newly designed tires, and super-thin aluminum skin (much of it just 1mm thick), the 458 showcases Ferrari technological wizardry at its very best.
Exterior
What else can you say but…"Michelangelo"? One of the most striking designs on the road. It's functional, too: Between 124 and 200 mph, the aerolastic SMC wings in the front air intakes deflect downward to reduce drag.
Interior
Up to Ferrari's usual stunning standards. Improvements include larger shift paddles, optional featherweight carbon fiber seats, and a Vehicle Dynamics Assist display that shows enough data to qualify for an F1 grid.
Performance & Handling
Performance is simply scalding (think 0 to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds), while the engine's flat-plane-crank design contributes to an otherworldly howl. The Delphi MR shocks now monitor ride motions every millisecond, while standard carbon-ceramic brakes with a new Prefill technology (which moves the pads into light contact with the discs when the driver lifts off the throttle) provide astonishing stopping power.
Safety
In addition to the usual complement of airbags, the 458 offers exceptional handling control thanks in part to its integrated F1-Trac and E-Diff 3 systems --yielding improved power delivery, grip, and stability in all road conditions.
EPA Fuel Economy
- 11 mpg city/16 mpg highway (est)
