Infiniti EX - What the Auto Press Says

Saturday, 5 March 2011

The 2011 Infiniti EX ranks 3 out of 8 Luxury Compact SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 37 published reviews and test drives of the Infiniti EX, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
While limited cargo and passenger space means the 2011 Infiniti EX isn’t a great family car, reviewers say that its sporty performance, stylish looks and classy interior will please just about everyone but parents.

The sleek looks of the 2011 Infiniti EX may tempt some parents looking for a stylish and sporty family car, but reviewers say you shouldn’t be deceived. Edmunds calls the EX “one of the best-driving entries in the growing compact luxury crossover segment.” But, they add, you shouldn’t “expect it to haul people and stuff like its roomier rivals." Though less roomy than competitors, the Infiniti EX is still a great value. We named it the 2011 Best Luxury Compact Crossover for the Money.
For buyers who don’t need the world’s most practical SUV, the EX is a sporty choice among luxury compact SUVs. It has standard rear-wheel drive and a powerful engine. This combination leads reviewers to compare the EX to sport sedans more than they compare it to other SUVs. If you’re a driving enthusiast who needs more cargo space than Infiniti’s G sedan provides, reviewers say the EX is a great choice.
Even if you’re not a driving enthusiast, the EX has a lot going for it. Reviewers love its luxurious interior. The front seats are comfortable and supportive enough to hold you in place while you attack twists and turns. Reviewers also love the high-tech features you can get on the EX, like a hard drive for music and Infiniti’s innovative around view system. Instead of a plain rearview camera, the Around View System gives driver’s a nearly-360-degree view of the area around the EX. Safety features are even more impressive, and include things like lane departure warning, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation. All in all, reviewers say the 2011 EX is a great crossover SUV – so long as you don’t have a lot of people or cargo to haul.

Other Luxury SUVs to Consider

If you need a more spacious luxury SUV, consider the Volvo XC60. While the base model has performance that’s only pleasant, reviewers love the turbocharged T5 model. Plus, the XC60 has a lot more passenger and cargo space.
Buyers who need more space but aren’t willing to compromise on sporty performance are going to have to pay more. The BMW X3 costs a lot more than the EX does, but it has performance in-line with a sports sedan, and a lot more cargo and passenger room than the EX. Despite the extra chunk of change it takes to get into the X3, it’s a more credible family car.

For 2011, the EX gets a new seven-speed automatic transmission (it can be shifted manually). Blind Spot Warning has been added to the technology package and 18 inch wheels are now standard.
