Mitsubishi Outlander Sport - What the Auto Press Says

Saturday, 5 March 2011

The 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport ranks 10 out of 23 Affordable Compact SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 18 published reviews and test drives of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport may not be the most capable compact crossover available, but a comfortable ride, and lots of features and amenities makes it a great value. In fact, it's such a great value that we named it the 2011 Best Compact Crossover for the Money.
Reviewers are eager to note that the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport fails to capitalize on its “sport” nomenclature. From its relatively underpowered four-cylinder engine, to its soft and squishy suspension, the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is not the compact crossover for those seeking a sporty driving experience. "Mitsubishi has clearly done a lot of work developing the new Outlander Sport," says Truck Trend. "It remains to be seen if it can make a dent in the fiercely competitive small crossover segment."
However, reviewers generally seem to like the little crossover. Sharing much of its platform with the larger Mitsubishi Outlander, the Outlander Sport offers roomy accommodations for front and rear passengers, as well as ample cargo space.
The little Mitsubishi also offers great fuel economy, with five-speed models receiving an EPA-rated 25/31 mpg city/highway and CVT models achieving 24/31. All-wheel drive models still manage to achieve an impressive 24/29 mpg city/highway.
Critics praise the Outlander Sport’s solid value proposition. The upper-spec SE model, which starts at just over $22,000, comes equipped with such niceties as HID headlamps, keyless ignition and Bluetooth.
Other Compact SUVs to Consider
Manufacturers anticipate the compact crossover segment to balloon over the next few years. Due to this, there are many options for consumers looking to purchase a compact crossover.
Buyers looking for value should look at the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson. The Sportage starts out $200 cheaper than the Outlander Sport. Both the Sportage and Tucson come equipped with more powerful engines than the Outlander Sport.
Consumers looking for more style and a sportier driving experience should also look at the MINI Cooper Countryman. The Countryman is available with a 181-horsepower engine that eclipses the Outlander Sport’s by 33-horsepower.
Details: Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is an all-new model for Mitsubishi. Although it shares a platform with the larger Mitsubishi Outlander, the exterior and interior dimensions of the Outlander Sport are significantly smaller.
The Outlander Sport is available in two trim levels, ES and SE. Base ES two-wheel-drive models are available with a five-speed manual transmission, while all-wheel-drive and SE Outlander Sport models come with a CVT automatic transmission.
ES models come standard with seven-airbags, Bluetooth and the usual host of power accessories, while SE models add HID headlights, keyless ignition and 18-inch wheels.
