IED Turin Reveals SCORP-ION at Geneva
Sunday, 6 March 2011
On its eighth years of participation at the Geneva International Motor Show, IED Turin unveiled the world preview of its new vehicle, the SCORP-ION. The environment-friendly concept car that was presented at Geneva was designed by the students of the Master of Arts in Transportation Design and constructed in cooperation with Abarth.
IED said that the SCORP-ION embodies all of Abarth’s specific characteristics in an unequalled combination of sportiness and reduced dimensions. This eco-friendly concept vehicle that comes as a 2-seater is fully run on electric power.
While the concept vehicle was designed, the lithium battery was placed under the load compartment behind the seats that provides ample space inside. The engine is de-located in the four wheels, so that the interior space of the vehicle can be exploited to the full.
The concept vehicle recalls the lines of the scorpion, the icon of the Abarth marquee, and has been designed with particular attention to improving vehicle aerodynamics – through completely covering the rear wheels.
