Jaguar C-X75 Supercar Likely To Go Into Production
Sunday, 6 March 2011
Jaguar is reportedly mulling over the C-X75 concept going into the production phase, driven mainly by the favorable reaction it received when it was unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show in October.
According to Autocar, Jaguar’s chief designer Ian Callum said, “It is not possible to say yet whether a rumoured batch of cars could be built for sale.”
“Our job as designers is to destabilise things and to dream of exciting cars the company is not making now. I happen to think Jaguar needs a car like this. Everything about it is new yet it recalls one of our greatest designs of all time, the XJ13.” Callum added.
In addition, Callum expects the public’s reaction to the Jaguar C-X75 concept to influence the company’s decision regarding a production version.
Underlining Callum’s convictions, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Carl-Peter Forster was reported to have said, “We would love to do it, but it will take up a lot of resources. We have not come to a conclusion yet.”
As for the Jaguar C-X75, a total of four 195 hp electric motors meant for each wheel is expected to give a power of 780 hp as well as a peak torque of 1,180 lb ft. The engine is coupled to a single-speed transmission. The top speed of the Jaguar C-X75 is touted to be 205 mph and it can go from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds.
In fact, the C-X75 has a range of 68 miles on the power produced by the lithium-ion batteries. After the battery power runs out, the Jaguar C-X75 will utilize two gas micro-turbines and churn out a total of 188 hp to extend the range to 560 miles.
The bodywork of the Jaguar C-X75 is expected to be carbon fiber wrapped around an extruded and bonded Jag-spec aluminum chassis and will ride on 21 inch alloy wheels.
